InterHub intergenerative transdisciplinary futures
Description:
Intention
Learning to take intergenerational action together to reenchant civilization
Description of the Presencing Institute Project
The pre-emergent purpose of our hub is to explore the distributed field and processes of “hubbing.” What actions can we take together in digital space/time and real space/time that reenchant our civilizations and lead towards a cosmodernity? Perhaps the existing word hubbing, as a metalworking process to make and use dies, is a good metaphor for recasting our molds for humans and their societies. We are interested in the interconnections among hubs while seeking holistic communions rooted in celebrating diversity. We use the term “field” intentionally. Through the eyes of modern cosmology (and even more ancient ones) the universe is seen as more a field of probabilities and processes than a collection of particles and parts. Our hub is founded on participatory intergenerativity to move us from Presencing to Futuring. How do we combine conversations to create actions? How do we motivate individuals to act collectively in service of the greater good that is the core of individual well-being?
We invite intergenerational engagement – kids and elders are often excluded and isolated. But intergenerational relationships are about all of us. They are not just bipolar, nor unidirectional. Their vulnerability is a source of humility for them and for us that lies at the root of wisdom. Intergenerational relationship-based story creation and sharing allows learning from the past and imagining the future in empowering ways.
We also invite international, interfaith, interprofessional, intersectoral and interdisciplinary into our InterHub. We want to go “between to go beyond.” We have facilitators who self-identify as transdisciplinarians, meaning to explore boundaries among disciplines to develop concepts, words, metaphors and stories that more effectively address complex, “wicked” problems. Reempowering and reenchanting the passion and spirit of learning, including using the arts, will be part of our process to allow the beautiful to emerge from the particulars in relationship to the whole. We will help birth a new civilization -cosmodernity.
We will convene in our hub every two weeks (except the summer) and invite individuals to seed the conversation with ideas for action that emerge from exploring transdisciplinary and intergenerative boundaries. We exist to learn from each other in service of the future of all life. Topics will focus on wicked problems like environmental deterioration, social inequity, dysfunctional politics, scientism, and destructive economics.
